Billingham blitzed by youngsters

THE Wild Academy Under 14 team put in a superb performance to beat Billingham 10-1 at Planet Ice Widnes on Saturday.

After a tense opening phase Widnes took the lead on 11 minutes through Jared Knowles and the score remained 1-0 at the first period break.

Second period goals from Knowles again, Evan Walker and Sophia Green gave the Wild youngsters a 4-0 lead before Billingham scored their only goal of the game on 28 minutes. A strike by Callum Sweeney just 60 seconds later gave Widnes a 5-1 lead at the end of second period.

Five unanswered goals for Widnes in the third period – from Reece O’Brien, Green again and three more for Jared Knowles for an impressive 5 overall in the game - saw the Wild Academy cruise to a convincing 10-1 win over the north east visitors and they remain in third place in the league table as a result.
