Fruitful trip to the Midlands for U16s

Leaders Solway Sharks (41 points) and second place Whitley (36) have a clear lead at the trop and are unlikely to be caught but the battle for third place is important as the quarter final pairings for the end of season play offs are decided by final league positions.

The Wild have another away game this Saturday 12th March when they travel north of the border to take on league leaders Solway Sharks in Dumfries – 7pm face off – and they are then at home on Sunday 13th March when they entertain Solihull Barons in another important “four pointer” encounter at Planet Ice Widnes – 5.30pm face off.

The Widnes Wild Ladies team are away to Kingston Diamonds (Hull) in the Women’s Premier League on Sunday 13th March – 12.30 (noon) face off.

THE Wild Academy Under 16 team came away from the West Midlands with an impressive 1-9 victory over Solihull U16s on Sunday.

Widnes took the lead on three minutes with a goal from Jaxon Kirk – Jones and the advantage was doubled just 2 minutes later with a strike from Liam Yarwood.

Solihull scored what would turn out to be their only goal of the game on 8 minutes but two goals within 21 seconds of each other – from Cody Ogden and Adam Vigh-Yecsey – and then a second for Yarwood gave the Wild a clear 1-5 lead at the first break.

There was only one goal in the second period – from Cody Ogden to make the score 1-6 to Widnes – but third period strikes saw Ogden and Yarwood both complete hat tricks and Vigh-Yecsey also scored a second.

● The Wild Academy Under 16 team are at home to Grimsby on Saturday 12th March at Planet Ice Widnes, 3.20pm face off, followed by the Under 18s who are at home to Sutton U18s - 5pm face off. The U12s are away at Kingston (Hull) on Saturday 12.30 (noon) face off

Admission is free to all Wild Academy home games at Planet Ice Widnes and spectators are encouraged to go along and support the stars of the future.
