IN the Widnes Bowling Club 501 League William Saxon Cup at Simm’s Cross Inst., James Holden won unopposed but then lost out 2-1 to Tex Bowles.

At Widnes Bowling Club Glen Owen progressed into the quarter finals with two emphatic 2-0 wins.

At Mill Brow SC Joe Price had a comfortabl­e 2-0 win and Ian Wall joined him with a 2-1 victory.

At Millfield Arms Andy Abbott made no mistake and went through by 2-0.

At Widnes Bowling Club Mike Howard (17 darts) took his place in the last eight with a 2-0 win.

At The Ball Ian Woodward reached the quarter finals with a 2-0 win.

At Hough Green SC Alex McGill won a close one by 2-1 to reach the next round.

ROUND 9

WIDNES BOWLING CLUB B AT HOME TO HAMMER & PINCERS

THE Bowler were in fine form as they raced through the first six games. Terry Roach (16 darts), Brad Flemming and John Bowles (17 darts & 180) took the singles. John Bowles & Terry Roach (17 darts), Robbie Gorst & Brad Flemming (18 & 15 darts) and Danny Magee & Colin Rigby won the pairs. The home team did not have everything their own way and Keith Glover (17 darts) won the next for the Hammer. Joe Price won the next and Robbie Gorst took the last for the Bowler despite a 116 finish by Robert Lea in defeat.

SIMM’S CROSS INST. A AT HOME TO BALL A

THE first four games were shared, Nathan Sivills put the Ball in front only to be pegged back through Brian Dutton. Karl Whitfield (18 darts) put the away side back in front before Brian Dutton & Glen Owen again squared the match. Eric Peel & Tony Green (18 darts & 180) gave the Stute the lead but this was to be their last as the Ball won the remaining games. Karl Whitfield & Nathan Sivills won the final pairs, Karl Windisch (17 & 13 darts) despite a Glen Owen (180), Lol Fonterigo and Rob Gatcliffe won the last four and the points for the Ball A.

MILL BROW SC AT HOME TO SIMM’S CROSS INST. B

THE Brow made short work of their opposition as they took all nine games. Clive Rule, Mike Callaghan and Dave Powell (18 darts) won the opening singles. Kieran Stringer & Clive Rule (15 darts), Paul Linger & Dave Powell and Tom Callaghan & Peter Fisher swept the pairs. The final three games were won by Brian Spruce, Peter Fisher and Kieran Stringer (180) as the home team took the points.

MILLFIELD AT HOME TO WIDNES BOWLING CLUB B

THE Millfield took the first two points, Ian Wall (18 darts & 112 finish) and Gaz Bason gave the home team the ideal start. The Bowler then produced two of their own when Rob Magee and Scott Grady & Joe Batty (16 darts) levelled the tie. The Milly then won the next four games taking the match and the points in the process. Adam Mellor & Ian Wall (17 darts), Mike Howard & Tony Jackson (100 finish) won in the pairs. Tony Jackson and Adam Mellor won the next two before Alex McGill won the last for the Bowler.

WIDNES BOWLING CLUB WIDNES CC V SIMM’S CROSS INST.

THE Stute raced into a two game lead through Glen Owen and Ray Dutton. Matty Fisher (16 darts) replied for the Cricket Club and this spurred on his side to take the next four games and progress to the final. Carl Bryan & Phil Slavin, Kev Baxter & Ian Sharples and Dave Herley & Jonny Leather completed a clean sweep of the pairs. Nev Goff won the vital leg to put the CC home before Paul Batty got one back and Dave Herley finished it off for the winners.

WIDNES BOWLING CLUB B V MILLFIELD

ROBBIE Gorst put the Bowler in front only for Joe Kelly to level for the Milly. Brad Flemming and John Bowles & Alan Magee (18 darts) won to give the Bowler a two leg lead only for Tony Jackson & Joe Kelly (13 darts) reduce the deficit. Robbie Gorst & Brad Flemming (16 darts) put the Bowling Club within one leg of the final but they had to wait as Tony Jackson (18 darts) took the next for the Millfield. The decisive leg was won by Mike Callaghan and John Bowles (10 darts) took the last to set up the final against the Cricket Club.

THE early exchanges were won by the Cricket Club, Phil Slavin put them one up before Brad Flemming (15 darts) replied for the Bowler. Matty Fisher (17 darts) put the CC back in front only for Robbie Gorst & Brad Flemming to square the tie in the opning pairs. Consecutiv­e wins from Carl Bryan & Phil Slavin and Dave Herley & Jonny Leather put the Cricket Club in sight of victory. John Bowles won the next to keep the Bowler hopes alive but with a win in the next from

Nev Goff, the Cricket Club got a much deserved win. Robbie Gorst took the last for the Bowler but the trophy went to the CC.
