Voluntary groups in £220,000 windfall

MORE than £220,000 of voluntary sector grants have been approved by Halton Borough Council for the upcoming year.

Executive board councillor­s backed the spending on Thursday, March 17, at Runcorn Town Hall.

The total voluntary sector grants sum for 2022-23 is £226,640, which is to be distribute­d as follows, largest to smallest: n Halton Citizens Advice Bureau, £143,350. n Halton & St Helens VCA, £38,700. n Widnes & Runcorn Cancer Support Group, £11,500. n Relate, £9,000. n Cheshire Asbestos n Victim Support and Halton Child Contact Centre, £5,000 each. n Samaritans, £4,500. n Vision Support, £4,000. n Cheshire Race & Equality Council (CHAWREC), £3,000. n Runcorn & Frodsham Mencap, £2,590.

The grants are awarded following an applicatio­n process, assessed by Halton Council’s elected voluntary sector portfolio holder and officers in the People Directorat­e.

A report published ahead of the meeting said all approved bidders must agree a service level agreement and provide quarterly reports, while sums under £5,000 require annual and bi-annual reports.

It said the total awarded for 2022-23 was “commensura­te” with 2021-22.
