WILD JUNIOR ACADEMY

THE Wild Academy Under 14 team lost 6-4 in a challenge match away to the Sutton U14s in their compact and bijou Lammas Road rink on Saturday.

Despite outshooting the opposition by 2 to 1 over the course of the game, they weren’t able to take full advantage of their opportunities and went behind after six minutes.

Austin Busby drew the Wild youngsters level on 10 minutes but a further goal for the hosts gave them a 2-1 lead at the first period break.

Sutton edged further ahead just 1 minute into the second period but a goal from Jared Knowles on 27 minutes ensured that

Widnes remained in touching distance heading into the third and final period.

Sutton scored again right at the start of the third and, once again, Widnes countered with a strike from Alexandra Vigh-Yecsey just 60 seconds later. The same thing happened again two minutes later with another Sutton goal and a Widnes counter from Vigh-Yecsey just 11 seconds apart but, try as they might, the Wild youngsters were unable to get that extra breakthrough to take control of the game.

A later strike for the hosts on 43 minutes rounded off the scoring for the match and gave them a narrow 6-4 victory.

The two teams will meet again in the return match at Planet Ice Widnes this Saturday 2nd April, 3.20pm face off. Immediately following that game, the

Wild Academy Under16 team take on Sutton Under 16s in a league game – 4.50pm face off. Admission is free to both games. Also on Saturday, the Academy Under 12s are away to Leeds - 4.20pm face off.
