CCTV review after bus vandals threw cones

-

POLICE have confirmed they are reviewing CCTV after reports of youths throwing traffic cones at buses in Runcorn.

A spokeswoman said Cheshire Policee received two reports of anti-social behaviour (ASB) on the town’s busway during the week of March 13-19.

She said the incidents involved “young people throwing cones at buses, causing some damage”, adding that officers attended each time and searched the area but the suspects had vacated the scene.

Police said the reports came against the backdrop of a reduction in ASB in Runcorn and continued patrols.

CCTV is being reviewed.

One of the incidents, near Parkside in Brookvale, led the X1 bus’s operator MP Travel to warn that any further damage to its vehicles in the town would result in the popular RuncornLiverpool express service being cancelled ahead of its scheduled end date.

The company accompanied a social media post with a picture of cracked bodywork a the front end of a bus.

Attacks have become a bane for bus companies and passengers in parts of Runcorn with recurrent issues and disruption leading to the imposition of dispersal orders.

Police said action to tackle the problem is having an impact as witnesses were urged to come forward via the website cheshire.police.uk quoting IML 1224890.
