Car rental site takes shape replacing motor dealership

-

WORK is under way to install a vehicle hire outlet on a former car yard in Runcorn.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car was granted permission by Halton Borough Council in September to install an office and for a change of use of the remaining land, which is located at the bottom of Heath Road near to where it meets Halton Road.

The local authority authorised a separate application to install an assortment of signs and vinyl door.

Previously the site was occupied by Polar Ford.

The application only relates to the land on the expressway-side of Heath Road.

A design and access statement filed with the plans in June said the change of use is not expected to generate any “significant increase” in vehicles accessing the site compared to its previous use as a car dealership.

It said that if granted approval, Enterprise would enter into a long-term lease of the site.

Three business units are due to be installed with cars and vans will be available to hire.

The design statement said the facility is expected to adapt to changes to the market due to decarbonisation.

It said: “Enterprise will be making requests for an increased power supply...

“The proposal therefore shows the positions of potential future electric charging points to accommodate future needs, as the car industry moves away from fossil fuels.”
