Huge pallet yard blaze visible for miles around

-

FIREFIGHTERS stayed overnight at the scene of a huge fire which broke out near a pallet yard.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service rushed to the scene of a fire near a pallet yard on Percival Lane in Runcorn at around 1.30pm last Thursday, where wooden and plastic pallets had caught fire.

The resulting inferno covered an area around 60 square metres, and residents were asked to close their doors and windows while smoke plumes filled the air.

Smoke was visible from Frodsham and ambulance and police attended the scene.

The fire service used several special appliances including an aerial ladder platform, the Scorpion high reach extending turret and a high volume pump, to tackle the blaze.

According to a witness, nobody was hurt, but businesses were evacuated by the fire service as the blaze spread to an adjoining building.

At the height of the blaze, more than 50 firefighters tackled the flames.

In an update at 9am the following day, the fire rescue service said firefighters were still in attendance at this incident and were dampening down the area. They were also using a digger to turn over minerals to expose hot spots of fire.
