Amazon quiet on DHL centre takeover talk
INTERNET shopping giant Amazon has remained tight-lipped over a rumour it is taking over the DHL distribution centre at Whitehouse Industrial Estate in Runcorn.
The company directed an enquiry from the Weekly News to the building’s main operator DHL, which issued a general statement to say an “existing customer” needed more space and would be recruiting in coming weeks.
An expired listing on the TotalJobs recruitment website for a warehouse operative at “Amazon-DHL, Runcorn” said staff at the site are paid between £10 per hour on the day shift and £12 at night, with overtime time-and-a-half rates.
A DHL Supply Chain spokesperson said: “With a number of our tenancy agreements at Preston Brook ending this year, we’re delighted to confirm that one of our existing customers at the site has a requirement for extra space.
“In the coming weeks we will be looking to recruit colleagues locally to support the operation.”
