Creditable finish for U18s

-

THE Wild Academy Under 18s team can look back on a successful season having finished in a highly creditable 3rd place in the five–team Under 18 North 2 league table

This is the first time that the Under 18 team has completed a full season of competition after their debut 2019/20 campaign was cut short by the Covid pandemic and to have held their own among longer established teams with much more experience is a great credit to the players and coaches.

The Wild youngsters finished the season with a 50/50 playing record, having won 8 and lost 8 of their 16 league games. By far the best team in the league were Sutton U18, who finished top of the table with 30 points while runners up Sheffield notched 23 points.

The Wild were unable to beat Sutton in any of their 4 league meetings but they did beat Sheffield 9-2 in their final encounter – and also achieved a clean sweep over Solihull and 3 wins from 4 games with Nottingham. This gave them 16 points overall and they finished well clear of Nottingham who got 9 and Solihull who finished bottom with 2.

Luke Mullarkey was the Wild’s leading points scorer for the season with 14 goals and 21 assists from 13 games and he finished 4th in the overall league scoring standings.

George Plevin was the top Widnes sniper with 23 goals (plus 7 assists) for a 7th place overall finish while Jake Meehan, Ben McLellan, Adam Case, Joel Bark, Ellis Mahar and Liam Yarwood also made it into double figures.

Calam Barber and Ellie Green shared the netminding duties over the course of the season and finished up with Save Percentages of 85.06 and 80.88 respectively.
