‘Appalling’ attack by gang of 10 on woman

AYOUNG woman has been left with serious face injuries after she was attacked by a group of around 10 people in Runcorn.

The 20-year-old, who lives in the town, was walking with two friends near the entrance to Trident Retail Park at around 9.50pm on Saturday, (May 14) when she was subjected to the unprovoked attack.

Police said she was ‘punched and kicked’ by the group, described as ‘young people’, who then fled the area, some of them riding bicycles.

The woman was taken to Halton General Hospital where she remains to receive treatment.

Police have launched an investigat­ion into the assault. Officers are urging any witnesses, including people with images or dashcam footage, to come forward.

Detective Inspector Helen Rowland, of Runcorn CID, said: “The victim was punched and kicked by a group of around 10 young people whilst she was out walking with friends.

“This was an unprovoked assault that has left the victim in hospital with serious facial injuries.

“We are determined to establish the identities of those responsibl­e for this appalling incident and make them face the consequenc­es of their actions. We are currently following a number of lines of enquiry.

“As part of our enquiries, we want to hear from anyone who was in the Trident Retail Park area of Runcorn around the time of the attack.

“Perhaps you witnessed the incident or saw the people involved, or maybe you have dashcam footage that could assist our investigat­ion.’’

DI Rowland added: ‘‘We also want to hear from anyone who believes that they may know the identities of the offenders.”
