Youngsters thriving at new scout group

-

RUNCORN is home to the newest Scout group in Mersey Weaver district with Windmill Hill youngsters enjoying the adventurous activities that are teaching them skills for life.

Wednesday nights are a bundle of excitement now that the newest Scout group has been set up and in their opening weeks, Squirrels (age 4 to 6) and Beavers (age 6 to 8) have explored what it means to have a disability or impairment and learned about the differences between physical, sensory, and cognitive abilities people might have and most importantly that everyone is unique.

As part of their activities, the young people have taken part in a blind/sensory trail and tried their hand at sign language.

They’ve been creative with nature, also made conker snakes and leaf print pictures. They also got themselves into a sticky mess making armpit fudge and bottom butties which are a firm favourite of both young people and adults alike.

Their latest recruits were welcomed officially into the group in a ceremony where young people say a Scout promise appropriate to them and are awarded badges and neckers.

Oli Chambers, District Commissioner for Mersey Weaver, said: “We are extremely grateful to our adult volunteers who are currently running the group however we continue to look for more volunteers to bolster the team and inspire the next generation. Whether it’s planning or running the programme or doing some of the admin behind the scenes we have a task you can help with.”
