Monster of a play bounds on to the Kingsley stage
KINGSLEY Players’ award winning Youth Theatre will be back on stage this month with a brilliant adaptation of Patrick Ness’s bestseller A Monster Calls.
Thirteen-year-old Conor and his mum are struggling - his mum is sick, his grandmother won’t stop interfering and kids at school won’t look him in the eye.
Then one night, Conor is woken by a sound at his window. A monster has come walking. It’s come to tell Conor tales from when it walked before. And when it’s finished, Conor must tell his own story and face his own deepest fears.
For the first time, the group will be accompanied by live music provided by a trio of keyboard, bass and drums.
Youth Theatre director Tom Hayes said: “We are really looking forward to staging A Monster Calls - it promises to be our most ambitious production yet.
“There is something in this enchanting show for everyone - live music, puppets, projection and the retelling of beautiful folk tales. Please join us for what will be a powerful storytelling experience.”
This month Kingsley Players Youth Theatre is also celebrating success with last year’s drama, Model
Behaviour. The group walked away with three trophies from the recent local NODA (National Operatic and Dramatic Association) awards ceremony with Best Drama, Best Actor wins for Iona Anstice, Ed Porter and Best Supporting Actor nominations for Kate Burge and Teigan Withey.
A Monster Calls will be on stage at Kingsley Theatre in
Kingsley Community Centre, from today (Thursday), March 14 to Saturday, March 16. Tickets cost £10 and can be booked online at www. kingsleyplayers.co.uk or by ringing the box office on 07724 892154.
