WRONG DIRECTIONS

- Max Lang, Northampton

As both a runner and conservation volunteer, I was very disappointed to find, following a cross-country event, bright-orange arrows sprayed on trees in our local woods. Although a chalk spray was used, it will still be some years before the arrows become less visible. Is there a protocol for marking woodland routes? I would have thought that if it is needed, then hazard tape tied to branches, which can be removed after the event, would be the best solution. One of the joys of outdoor running is to be in natural beauty. For many months to come, there will be one route that I can no longer enjoy.
