HOW THE BEST OF THE BEST EARNED THEIR MISSION MARATHON TEAM PLACES

-

After an overwhelming response to our call to join RW’S Mission Marathon, supported by Vifit Sport, the many became the few and, finally, the few became the chosen.

The Runner’s world team sifted through hundreds of highly eligible entries to produce a shortlist of the very best potential Mission Marathoners for each of our three teams – Speed Demons, Breaking 4 and Finish Liners. Then the lucky six shortlisted for each team were put through their paces at Mission Marathon Selection Day on the hallowed ground of the Lee Valley Athletics Centre, where Team GB’S running royalty have honed their fitness over the years.

The standard was incredibly high, which made for a fantastic day, but also meant some very tough choices had to be made when it came to crunch time. Our experts, influencers and ambassadors were

looking not just for the athletic potential to complete the marathon missions, but also for evidence of the drive needed to put in the hard weeks and months of run, recover, repeat it takes to fulfil that potential – and for that spark of inspiration. Such was the quality that there could easily have been several winners in each category, but in the end Lily, Jo and Paul showed us something truly special to earn their spots. See the panel above to find out more about our winners in each category.

With training plans and coaching from Head Coach – and Olympic marathoner – Jane Vongvorachoti, and support from team experts and RW ambassadors, theirs will be fascinating and inspirational journeys towards three momentous 26.2 targets. They’ll do the hard yards while Vifit Sport’s bars and drinks will help their muscles to recover so they’re ready to get out there with confidence next time. And you can follow every step via their instagram accounts (see above) or through # missionmarathon. Bring it on!
