HUMAN PERFORMANCE ENGINEERING

An apparel subscription box for runners

Human Performance Engineering (HPE), which is almost five years old, was founded by Nicholas Harris, an elite performance coach who, having worked in various sports – including, athletics, Formula One, tennis and golf – decided to launch an apparel brand that, he says, sweats the details in a way that other sports apparel companies don’t.

‘Our mantra is “your body is the greatest thing you’ll ever own”,’ he says, ‘and you shouldn’t be putting it in anything other than the best, which is what you’ll get from the HPE Collection.’

The kit sits in the subpremium category, ranging from £45 for a sports bra up to £175 for the top- of-therange jacket. Women and men are catered for and you can shop through the HPE website in the usual way – but what makes the brand different is that it also offers a kit subscription-box service for those who don’t have the time or inclination to update their kit drawer. Options include a one- off box (£160) and a 12-month box (£36.66), which gets you a box every three months: women receive a top, leggings and bra, while men get a top and bottoms. There’s also a free mystery box at the end of the year.

‘The system gives you one less thing to think about when it comes to health and fitness,’ says Harris. ‘It gives people an affordable way to keep their fitness wardrobe up to date, providing them with highly technical and stylish clothing that will inspire and empower them to exercise. And for those who don’t want the element of surprise, there’s a Build Your Box option, so you can choose products and styles that suit your exercise and lifestyle.’
