Kilian Jornet’s Bob Graham Round record

THE BOB GRAHAM ROUND is one of the UK’S most iconic endurance challenges. To complete it, participants must scale 42 peaks in the Lake District within 24 hours. In 1982, legendary fell runner Billy Bland finished the Bob Graham in 13 hours and 53 minutes. That remarkable record was finally broken in July by Catalan mountain runner Kilian Jornet, who took just over an hour off Bland’s time. ‘I wanted to come here because the Bob Graham is part of the history of fell running, and fell running is part of the history of mountain running,’ says Jornet. ‘I had a group of pacers who were amazing and are very talented runners themselves. Also, I had Billy’s time to aim for; when Billy did it, he was doing it with no references.’
