In the study, mice were restricted to using their front legs for 28 days. The researchers then examined an area of the brain called the sub-ventricular zone, where those neurons are produced. Restricting leg movement in the mice resulted in a reduction in the number of neural stem cells in their brains by 70 per cent, compared with the freely moving control group.
