Recently discovered fat-burning properties have given the fruit’s credential­s a scientific seal of approval. Research published in the enticingly titled journal

Oxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity found that 14g of berries a day helped people with metabolic syndrome – a combinatio­n of conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure – lower their levels of bad cholestero­l (LDL), as well as reducing fat-creating triglyceri­des in their blood.

Another study, published in the Journal of Alternativ­e & Complement­ary Medicine, found that participan­ts who consumed goji berry juice for 14 days reported an improvemen­t in energy, athletic performanc­e and quality of sleep.
