Winter gloves

-

1. Asics Basic Glove

£13, asics.co.uk As the name indicates, these are a budget-friendly, frills-free pair of unisex gloves that are a slim fit regardless of the size you buy. They have an extralong cuff that extends a good couple of inches down your wrist to keep the pesky wind out. They’re a no-nonsense option, perfect for milder winter conditions.

2. Inov8 All Terrain Pro Mitt

£25, inov-8.com These are waterproof mitts that can be worn on their own or over slimmer gloves if it’s particularly brutal outside. They look bulky but can be easily packed away into a pocket if conditions change for the better, and they come with large reflective logos and attached wrist loops to minimise the risk of the mitt being dropped and lost.

3. Gore Windstopper Gloves

£42.99, gorewear.com A premium price, for sure, but for that you get the outstanding quality and weatherproofing for which Gore is known. They feature fluorescent yellow all along the back for strong visibility on the run, grippy strips on the fingers in case you run holding your phone, smartphone-compatible fingertips, and the material is windproof and waterproof while still being breathable.

4. Proviz Reflect360 Running Gloves £34.99, provizsports.com

These are a little pricey but are a good investment if you often wear gloves on the run. The inner material is soft and warm, while allowing excess heat to escape, so your hands don’t get sweaty. The cuffs are strongly elasticated to keep the cold from getting in at your wrists, and the backs of the gloves are reflective.

5. Ultimate Performance Gloves

£18.99, ultimate-performance. co.uk These unisex gloves are available in four sizes and are excellent at blocking out sharp winter wind. They have silicon grips on the fingers and palm as well as a touchpad-friendly fabric on the index finger for smartphone use. There’s a soft-wipe panel on the thumb to wipe away sweat (or, let’s face it, snot) and the material is anti-odour.

6. Under Armour Storm Run Liner

£26, underarmour.co.uk Thin, slimline gloves that punch above their weight in the warmth stakes. They can be worn as a standalone pair or will fit under a second pair if the weather demands it (or you find yourself running across the Hebrides). The outer material is water-repellent enough to cope with brisk showers, and the fingertips are smartphone-compatible.
