EDITOR’S LETTER

-

RONNIE O’SULLIVAN

is one of the high-profile runners we’ve wanted to feature in the magazine for years and I’m glad to say we finally got him – check out the interview with him on page 44. I’ve always found it fascinating that one of the best snooker players ever ( the best, many would argue) is also a talented and committed runner, with a very impressive 10K PB of 34:54 and a race win on his running CV (fittingly, for a man nicknamed ‘The Rocket’). One of the things I’m always trying to convince my non-running friends of is that the benefits of running spread into other areas of your life. This is certainly true for Ronnie, who credits running with keeping the things that are important to him – family, relationships and snooker – much more stable. ‘Running just makes me feel so much better about myself,’ he says. Amen to that.

Elsewhere (page 34), we look at how more physical activity might take pressure off the NHS by preventing medical conditions such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease, whose treatment costs are projected to rise in future.

And finally, we list the 40 best podcasts for runners (page 60). The list includes The RW UK Podcast, the inclusion of which we stand by, as we think it’s rather good. So much so that it’s now weekly – download it at acast.com and let it tickle your eardrums on your next run.
