Rave Run The Hebridean Way
THE EXPERIENCE
The Hebridean Way, opened by Scottish Natural Heritage in 2017, passes through some of the most spectacular landscapes in the UK. The 156-mile trail runs from Barra to Stornaway in the Outer Hebrides, taking in 10 islands, six causeways and two ferry rides. The terrain varies from beaches to bogs, mountain tracks to road. The waymarked route can be walked in eight to 13 days, although an adventure-seeking runner could complete it in less than a week.
THE RUNNER
Amanda Butler is pictured traversing one of the trail’s many peat bogs. She was part of an all-female team of adventurers who completed the Hebridean Way in 2019. The team of nine finished in four days and seven hours, running 30-40 miles a day – a fastest known time for men or women.
