MULTISPORT, which

THE PACE looks quite like the Garmin Forerunner 735XT, is packed with functionality, including: cadence and speed alerts; wristbased heart-rate monitor and heart-rate zones; barometric altimeter for elevation readings; calorie counter; and compass.

Its chief selling points are the price and the exceptional battery life (up to 25 hours in GPS mode and up to 30 days in standard mode). Over a month we only had to charge it once.

Navigation combines GPS, GLONASS and BDS (US, Russian and Chinese) satellites and was extremely accurate measured against, for example, official race routes, and took under 20 seconds to lock on.

The cons are that the screen is surprisingly dark and the gloomy readout colours do not help. In addition, the user interface is not intuitive and we had to spend considerable time with the online manual, and trial and error, to work out even basic functions such as switching from kilometres to miles.

Overall, the watch does a decent, unspectacular, job, though people not au fait with smartwatch tech may find it tricky to get it set up the way they want it.
