TONKY IS TOPS

-

Reading Paul Tonkinson’s column Running to Redemption was eyeopening. I am a regular reader and Running Commentary podcast listener, and have long loved Tonky’s lighthearted ramblings. But his latest piece showcased what a mental sport running is. And not just in the sense that it takes mental effort, but that each of us runs partly to battle our demons, and partly to prove to ourselves we can triumph over them. Tonks, I hope you’re proud of your sub-3 London Marathon. But I also hope you’re proud that you’ve shown yourself to be a kind and forgiving individual in the way you’ve dealt with what was clearly a troubling childhood. Running is so much more than proving what our bodies can do, as Paul has so articulately suggested.
