THE GREAT SHOE DEBATE
Just to say how much I agree with Sam Murphy's article (RW May) regarding the technical advancement in the manufacture of running shoes. I have been a runner for just over 40 years and am proud to think that all my personal-best times and my personal-worst times are the result of my training or lack of training. Over the years, I have met great athletes (Ron Hill and Steve Cram to name but two) and they were/are runners who didn’t have to rely on technology, just hard work and determination, to improve on the natural ability they were born with. The shame is that Olympic medals will soon be determined by technology and nothing else, or am I being overly negative about this?
