HELPING MIND AND BODY

-

I found the Mental Health issue of RW really interesting. It was a good way to educate those of us with limited knowledge of the difficulties some people have to live with. I find that running can help prevent problems. I retired three years ago and my husband retired a few years before me. We had planned to do a lot of walking, but my husband has health problems, so the walking hasn’t materialised. I first ran in my mid-fifties, when a group of us from work decided to do the Race for Life. I loved it and have been running (slowly and short distances) ever since. So I retired and began running more. Last year, at 66, I ran my first marathon – elated, or what?! I also won my first cup (in anything) for being the first in my age group at a 5K run. Running doesn’t just help people get over mental health issues, it helps prevent them, too. And it’s never too late to start.

Well said, Janet. As the saying goes, prevention is better than cure.
