Amazing recipes to fuel your running

Billy White’s two great passions are trail running and delicious food. He’s worked in some of the world’s best restaurant­s alongside some of the most respected chefs in the business. In 2011, when age, long days in the kitchen and afterwork beers began to catch up with him, he signed up for his first half marathon – and was instantly hooked. ‘I loved everything about it,’ he says, ‘from the feeling it gave me to the fact that, as a father of two small kids, working in a demanding industry, it suited my schedule.’ He ran his first trail race in 2013 and has gone on to complete a 100-miler, and his ongoing running journey has also included everything from road 10Ks to a 100km in the jungles of Thailand.

In his new book, Eat, Run, Enjoy, he combines eating and running with a third element: enjoyment. ‘There are hundreds of books about how to eat for peak performanc­e, but not so many that focus on the enjoyment of food and how that can coincide with the enjoyment of running,’ he says.

While writing the book, White travelled all over the world to meet, run and cook with some of the world’s top trail runners, adding their knowledge to his own. The result is a fantastic collection of recipes and insight to fuel your running and add a healthy serving of joy to your plate. Turn over for a taster… •
