You risk damaging it and it pushes your fingers forward. ‘Keep it tight, close to your fingers, then keep a straight wrist, knuckles perpendicu­lar to the ground, as you punch with the top two knuckles.’ If you’re not used to hitting with a fist, try striking with the heel of your palm instead.
