When training for a marathon, it can feel difficult to fit everything into your schedule. But don’t neglect faster, speedendurance-type work. During one of my failed marathon build-ups,
I tried to convince myself that as long as I was spending ‘time on feet’, it would get me through. This left me finding a competitive race pace very tough from the start. But when I emphasised my quality sessions, I felt more comfortable at marathon pace. Your quality workouts will improve your running economy and make you better able to sustain marathon pace; just like long runs, they are an important part of your schedule.
