The Lundy Island Race
Lundy Island in the Bristol Channel has a fascinating history of piracy, self-proclaimed kings, Civil War garrisons and a variety of eccentric wealthy owners who have issued coins and stamps for the island. These days, it belongs to the National Trust, ensuring a rather less dramatic existence than it has hitherto enjoyed. As such, this event, clocking in at just over half-marathon distance, is probably one of the most exciting things to happen there for a while.
