Families head to park
The Friends of Cambuslang Park held their annual fun day at the weekend - and it was a massive success for all involved.
Around 1500 turned out for event, wheich included MP Tom Greatrex and Councilor Russell Clearie, along with members of their families.
Early fears about the chance of rain were soon displaced, as the threat of rain dispersed and it turned into a dry day.
A spokesman for the Friends said: “At the start of the week we were a bit anxious that the weather would put a damper on the event, however, on the day it was dry, although at times a bit blustery.
“We had our usual attractions of Welsh Pony rides, face painting, Project 31 crafts, Shetland Ponies to pet, the smoothie bike from local community health initiative Healthy ‘n’ Happy, representatives from Durie’s Boxing Gym, splash inflatables, balloon modelling and Friends of Cambuslang Park stalls.
“We had the addition of Dr Bike, Amy’s Nail Bar, Universal Connections with sports games and Morrison’s, who had a number of food related games and were giving out food tasters of burgers and
sausages on rolls, as well as sausage rolls, jelly pots and various juices.
“We had two other stalls, one from the Foster Care Associates and one from the Joint Problem Solving Unit.
“We would like to thank everyone who put donations in our collection cans on the day, the money will go towards other free events we hold.
“A big thanks must go to all the volunteers who helped on the day and to land services for their assistance.”
Tom Greatrex MP said: “It was great to join so many other local families enjoying the Friends of Cambuslang Park’s funday on Saturday. The work of the Friends over recent years has seen a huge improvement in the park, and the local community is definitely responding both by using the park more frequently and attending events like Saturday’s in ever increasing numbers. Thanks to the effort of the committed volunteers running the Friends, the park is once again becoming the focal point for the community in Cambuslang, as it was envisaged a century ago.”
The Friends of Cambuslang Park spokesman added: “We would love to have feedback of the event from those who attended, which they can email to us at info@ camubuslangpark.co.uk or on our Facebook page.”
