Ashley’s locks are trimmed for charity

A kind Castlemilk mum had her first major haircut in years - and then donated her lef tover locks to charity.

Ashley Mc Cafferty has undergone an extreme makeover in the last few years after losing four-and-a-half stone with Weight Watchers - and now she’s got a new look after having her hair trimmed - big style.

The 27- year- old had been growing her hair for several years, but decided to get the chop recently at the Beechwood in King’s Park, where she works, and not only raised money for Cancer Research, but donated her hair to a charity who will use it to make wigs, to help children fighting cancer.

She told the Reformer: “It went really well, and managed to raise over £2000 on the night.

“I had about 18 inches cut off, and have sent it away to the Little Princess Trust.

“I hadn’t planned to start growing my hair and doing this to begin with, as it was just below my shoulders. I never went with the intention of doing this, but then in the last five or six months I decided to give it to the Trust.

“It’s a great charity who do a fantastic job.

“My grandfather passed away with cancer, so helping a cancer charity was something that was close to my heart, because it’s something that affects everyone.

“We had a great night, with about 140 people there, and thanks to all who came along and supported us.”

Charity manager Monica Glass said: “On behalf of everyone associated with the Little Princess Trust, I would like to thank Ashley sincerely for doing so much to help others. Her kind and selfless donation will form part of a realhair wig for a poorly child within the UK or Ireland.

“As the charity receives no formal funding, we rely solely on supporters such as Ashley to either donate their hair or fundraise for the Trust. Either way, it is people like Ashley who really make a difference to these children’s lives. She is an inspiration!”

Ashley’s Weight Watchers leader Lynda Kadegis, from Cambuslang, added: “Ashley has done so well in raising so much awareness for this charity, and think her new found confidence through weight loss has helped her in respect that she has not been shy in contacting business’s etc for help with the event,

“I, as a leader am so very proud of her. She is one of the most outgoing, courageous people, and I’m glad she walked into my meeting last October.”
