Bus company urged to re-evaluate links
Burnside Community Council are set write to First Bus asking them to re- evaluate a route from the area in to Glasgow City Centre.
At a community council meeting last week a resident raised the fact that the number 18 and 21 services, which stop near to Cathkin Roundabout, no longer go to Buchanan Bus Station.
Instead they now stop at Holland Street in the city centre, meaning people face a 15 minute walk to get a connecting bus at Buchanan Street.
As one Burnside resident pointed out, this is a big inconvenience to elderly residents who rely on the service to then get to other parts of the city: “Both the 18 and 21 stop on the southside of the centre of the city.
“They use to go up to Buchanan Street bus station, which was handy as they would connect with feeder buses going to the West End or other destinations.
“It made things a lot easier and it’s disappointing there is no longer such a service from Burnside to the Buchanan Street Bus Station.”
Community council chair Jim Neill said that the group would write to First Bus asking them to revise the service and added: “It is a shame that we don’t have a bus service that goes from Burnside straight through to Buchanan Bus Station. There is always the train but that still involves a walk from Glasgow Central to the bus station, which may not be ideal for elderly residents.”
A spokesperson for First Glasgow said: “Until May 2013, service 18 served Buchanan Bus Station, however, as a result of customer demand it was revised to serve Holland Street, improving links to Charing Cross.
‘Services 18 and 21 currently operate quite close to Buchanan Bus Station and so we have no current plans to reroute the services. However, as with all our services, we will closely monitor any ongoing demand for a change in the routes.”
