Don’t spoil the vote - make sure you ‘X’ counts on polling day

-

South Lanarkshire’s Counting Officer Lindsay Freeland is urging all registered voters to make their vote count.

To help achieve this he is offering the following advice for polling day – Thursday, September 18.

“We want everyone’s vote to count, whether they are voting by post or in person at a Polling Station,” said Mr Freeland.

“The best way to ensure your vote counts is to vote using an ‘X’ only once in the box next to your choice.”

Polling Stations are open from 7am until 10pm, however, Mr Freeland added: “With the likelihood of a large voter turnout I would also encourage people to vote early or prepare for Polling Stations to be busy at peak times, such as from 5pm to 10pm.

“Anyone in the Polling Place at 10pm will be able to cast their vote. Where possible, it may be helpful to consider walking to avoid any potential parking issues.”

It is helpful if people remember to take their Poll Card with them to vote but registered voters will still be able to vote even if they do not have their Poll Card with them.

Postal voters are also encouraged to cast their vote as soon as they receive their Postal Voting Pack.

If, however, anyone leaves it too late to post, their postal votes can be handed in to polling stations on 18 September up until the close of poll at 10pm.

I would encourage people to vote early
