Celebrating a return to health with a 10k run for charity

- Kenny Smith

The leader at Rutherglen Baptist Church is to continue his comeback from a brain illness by taking part in the Great Scottish Run.

Almost a year ago, Ken Coulter was admitted to Glasgow Southern General Hospital after feeling very unwell, and it was soon discovered that he had a brain infection.

The infection was coming from underneath his teeth, and he had to have all of his teeth removed to stop the infection from spreading.

He has now recovered due to the excellent care he received from the hospital and health services, but as part of his recovery, Ken had to learn to walk again and get fit.

And now he and wife Muriel are to take part in the 10k Great Scottish Run on October 5 to raise money for charity.

In the last two years, Ken’s uncle Otto, Muriel’s uncle David, and a friend Ernie have all died with Parkinson’s Disease.

The couple said: “To celebrate Ken’s return to health and in memory of these three significant people, we have decided to run 10k Great Scottish Run in Glasgow, raising sponsorship for Parkinsons UK.

“We are running - or hirpling - 10k. At present as we train we can hardly move because of aching muscles - so we hope things improve and we at least complete the route.”
