Bad Neighbours (15)

A pleasant surprise this one, with director Nicholas Stoller (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) combining Animal House-style pratfalls with spiky dialogue.

Zac Efron and Seth Rogan are comedy gold as the warring neighbours, with Rose Byrne and Dave Franco in fine supporting form.

Subtle it ain’t but funny? You bet it is.

Brick Mansions (15)

The last, completed, film starring the late Paul Walker isn’t quite the fitting send-off its top star deserves.

An Englishlanguage remake of French flick District 13, the increasingly silly plot follows a city slum walled off in the year 2018.

Some of the action impresses but there’s a serious lack of originality.

Homeland - Season 3 (15)

What started as gripping television and a worthy political thriller successor to 24 starts to head into problems during its up and down third run.

Claire Danes and Damian Lewis continue to give two of the best performances on television and there’s a welcome increase in screen time for Mandy Patinkin’s Saul.

But some of the storylines — particularly in the first few episodes — struggle to maintain realism.

Logic leaps abound and Morgan Saylor’s Dana continues to be one of TV’s most annoying characters.

The shocking climax, though, leaves you gasping for air — and wondering what direction season four is heading in.
