QP: Make your point

Boss wants to get wins

- Will Henshaw

Queen’s Park boss Gus MacPherson wants his side to start picking up points in League Two.

The QP gaffer has been pleased with the performance and effort of his side so far, but admits they’ve go to start taking their chances if they want to climb up the league.

The Spiders have won one out of their opening four games - losing the other three.

Gus says the league will be tight, but wants his second win of the season when his side take on Elgin this Saturday: “You can see how tight the league is going to be.

“Arbroath have had an excellent start to the season but we competed very well against them and lost a couple of goals in the closing stages.

“If you look at the league table there’s so many teams at the six, seven point mark, there’s not much in it.

“If we can pick up a win on Saturday it will pick us up to where we want to be.

“We’ve been creating chances but we need to take our chances that come along.”

The former St Mirren manager admits Elgin will be a tough task.

They’ve enjoyed a good start to the season - beating East Fife and Clyde, with a high scoring 3-3 draw in their last game against Annan.

Gus added: “They’ve had a good start. They lost to East Stirling, which was maybe a surprise result when you look at the way they started.

“It’ll be a tough game, they’ve recruited well and they’ve got great experience in the team who have played as this level and at higher levels - most notedly Marvin Andrews has came in and Michael Fraser from Ross County in goals.

“We’re looking to improve our points return and make sure we’re ticking along nicely.”

The international break meant there was no game for QP this weekend. Gus added: “We gave them the weekend off. We felt they’ve worked extremely hard in the short space of time we’ve had this group.

“We’ll be back in training later this week so they can pick things up for the game against Elgin.”
