Willie looks for Thornie response

-

Willie Harvey is looking for a reaction from his players when they travel to Thorniewood this weekend looking to make it a hat-trick of league wins to start the season.

Glens may have recorded a 2-1 victory over Kilsyth in their last outing, but the gaffer was less than impressed with the way his side laboured to get over the line.

And he’s hoping to see a continued improvement when they make the short trip to Viewpark on Saturday.

He said: “I will be looking for a reaction. The players don’t need to be told about last week’s performance, although they were told.

“You’ve got to take the positives from any game but you’ve also got to look at the negatives. “The players can’t relax. “Had we played like we did on Saturday against better teams then we would have lost the game.

“They’ve got to realise that, yes we won and that’s great if you win ugly, but if we’d been up against a Pollok or a Rob Roy we won’t be able to win ugly like that.

“We weren’t really in amongst it to be honest. Kilsyth will probably feel they could have got a draw, but I’ll take a win.”

Unlike Glens, Thorniewood have endured a fractured summer, with a change in management.

They’ve taken just one point from their first two games, but Willie expects them to improve as the season goes on.

He said: “It’s been a full change at Thorniewood, there’s a whole new team there. They had problems in pre-season when they sacked their manager and some of the players walked out.

“( New manager) Alan Frame has come in and brought in junior players and amateur players and you can see the effect that’s had - they blow hot and cold.

“But he’s experienced enough, he’s been in the senior game, and wi l l have good ideas and good methods.

“I would expect them to get stronger. Maybe like Kilsyth, we’re playing them at the right time.”
