Cambus set for league kick off

- Kenny Smith

Cambuslang Rugby Club kick off their season on Saturday - and promotion is definitely their aim.

New coach Robbie Stewart and his side all want to see them move up from RBL West League Two, and take on newly-promoted Paisley RFC on Saturday.

Cambus know it’s not going to be an easy task against the side, who were beaten 57-0 by Glasgow Accies on Saturday.

Robbie said: “I saw their result, and it was what I was expecting against a side like Accies.

“But we can’t afford to take Paisley lightly - it would be a real trap to fall into, but if we’re going to have the season that we want to have, then we need to go with the intention of taking five points.

“We’ve got to get that into the guys in training this week.

“If we have any aspirations of playing at a level more advanced that we are, I’m hoping that we can start with a win on Saturday.

“We’re not there yet, but if Glasgow Accies can put almost 60 points past them, that’s what we should be aiming to do.

“I wouldn’t say we will do that, but it’s got to be our goal.

“We’re setting ourselves targets for each game, and will take them one at a time.

“It’s going to be tough, but we want to go there and dominate the game for 80 minutes, come home with the points, and set out our stall for the season.”
