New hitman will be seen and Herd

-

Cambuslang Rangers have pulled off another sensational transfer signing after bringing in experienced hitman Gordon Herd.

In his 10 years with Linlithgow Rose, the forward made 312 appearances, scoring 116 times, and won two Scottish Cups, and two superleague titles.

In addition, he collected 14 medals from his time at the club.

But now, he’s made the move to Somervell Park, after being convinved to take part in the revolution being co-ordinated by co-managers John Doyle and Paddy Flannery.

John said:“It’s one we’ve been working on for a few weeks, and didn’t want to say too much because he’s such a good player.

“Gordon was planning on hanging up his boots at the end of last season, but Paddy knows him and had spoken with him about what we’re trying to do and build at Cambuslang, and it got him interested.

“He’s been down and had a look, and he seems really excited by the whole project here, and we’re delighted that he wants to be a part of it.

“Gordon’s a fantastic lad, and he has a great appetite and lots of enthusiasm. Normally, he’s one of the first in for pre-season, and starts before he should, but because he’d planned to retire, he’s not as fit as we need him to be.

“He’s had two or three months off, but it’s something he can work on.

“But in terms of his experience, it will be hard to beat that.

“Gordon’s a great signing for the club, and we’ve deliberately kept it low-key until now, until we made sure that everything was done and dusted.”

John hopes that Gordon will be a key player for the side as his fitness improves with every passing week.

He added: “He’s a typical striker and will be desperate to get that first goal.

“When a striker is scoring goals, it makes everything else quickly fall into place, and it’s good for the confidence.

“Hopefully, he’ll score early on, and can kick on from there.”
