Exploring Christianity

-

Rutherglen Baptist Community Church is set to offer people the chance to explore Christianity this month.

The church, on Greenhill Road, is to give members of the congregation, and those from outside it, the opportunity to discuss the faith.

It has arisen as part of part of an ongoing project at the church.

Ken Coulter, the church leader, said: “As a congregation we began a process of prayer and reflection at Easter time in 2014. The purpose of this was to answer the questions of where we should be developing as a congregation and into what should we be putting our energies?

“Personally I was expecting some new project to become obvious to us, which would galvanise energy and grow the faith of the church members. I expected this process to be completed by Pentecost in 2024.

“What became clear through this longer process was that our priority as a congregation was to support the spiritual growth of the members before we embarked on any project and that our work in the community should come from an attitude of service for others based on our faith. The strapline for the church has begun to be talked about as ‘Knowing God and serving others’, but this has still to be formally approved by a church business meeting.

“As a result we are planning to run a Christianity Explored course, starting in January which will enable church people and anyone who wants to join (from anywhere) explore the basics of what Christians believe; but do this with an RBCC twist.

“The twist will also look at the values which are characteristic of our congregation. If anyone wants to join this from outside the congregation they should contact me.”

Ken can be emailed at ktcoulter@ aol.com, or called on 0141 569 1060.

Meanwhile, the church’s festive retiring offering raised £ 150 for the work of the Freedom Bakery in Bangkok.

This is a Baptist Missionary project which gives training and employment for girls who been rescued from having been trafficked in the sex trade in that city.
