A shock home defeat

-

C’lang Rangers ..... 0 Royal Albert ......... 1 Cambuslang Rangers crashed to a shock defeat at the hands of lowly Royal Albert.

The side went into the game having not played for two weeks in the title race.

There was a welcome return for Andy Finnigan in goals, while Chris Hamilton made the bench.

Both teams started the game with a high tempo but it was the visitors who created the first real chance of the game with a shot which was comfortably dealt with by the defence.

Royal Albert’s high defensive line was working, as lone striker Paddy Cullen was caught offside along with McKerrell and Grierson on the wings.

Robert Dunn had to come off early on due to a hamstring problem and was replaced by defender Gaffney.

Albert almost got the lead just before the break. A mistake by captain Burns let the striker go one-on-one with Finnigan, but the shot went wide.

The second half started much the same as the first except it was the Lang who looked the more likely side to open the scoring.

However, they couldn’t find the precision through-ball that was needed.

Easton came off after being battered and bruised the whole game, and he was sorely missed as his skill went out of the game.

On the 72nd minute mark a mistake by the Lang defence saw Albert go right through on goal and smash a shot past Finnigan.

The disappointment was clear to see and although the side tried their best to push forward, they couldn’t get a equaliser despite their best efforts.

It was a vital three points lost in the title race with Rossvale.
