Police continue crackdown on anti-social behaviour

Police are targeting Melrose Avenue as they continue their crackdown on anti-social behaviour.

There have been reports to police of youths drinking in public as well as committing vandalism on the Rutherglen street.

At a Rutherglen Community Council meeting last week, the subject was brought up to polic e officers who attended the meeting in the Town Hall on Tuesday (April 15).

David Allison lives on the street and said at the meeting that he had concern about a group of youths who had been hanging around Melrose Avenue and particular­ly the flats where the old Stonelaw High School was.

He also said himself and other residents were concerned about vandalism which had taken place on the street.

Constable Ewan Chalk said at the meeting that the police would look at Melrose Avenue and particular­ly any sections where there has been reports of anti-social behaviour.

Constable Richard Samon of Rutherglen Police Office said police were aware of the issues and had taken steps to resolve them: “Police have received reports of youth issues in the area.

“We are providing extra attention where possible and encourage local residents to continue to report any suspicious activity or disorder to Police immediatel­y.

“Furthermor­e, two persons were issued ASB ticket fines for consuming alcohol in public in this area on April 11.”
