Crime initiative launched
Police Scotland’s Lanarkshire Division has launched a twoweek crime fighting initiative to further crack down on criminal activity and increase public confidence and reassurance across South Lanarkshire.
The intelligence- led campaign has been tailored to respond to local issues raised by members of the community.
A dedicated team of officers will be working to address local concerns by running a range of operations targeting drugs, street drinking and youth disorder, bogus callers, proceeds of crime and businesses connected to serious and organised crime.
They will also visit licensed premises, carry out roadside safety checks, execute warrants, and conduct curfew and bail condition checks.
Local Divisional Officers will be assisted by their colleagues from the Force’s specialist units including road policing, mounted branch and CID, and they will work closely with a range of partner agencies including the local council, NHS, SEPA, Scottish Power, UKBA and the Department of Work and Pensions to share expertise and resources.
Chief Superintendent Kenny MacDonald of Lanarkshire Division said this week: “This two-week initiative demonstrates our continuing commitment to keeping people safe and it will help to ensure that the people who live in our communities can go about their day to day business without the fear of becoming a victim of crime.
“My intention is to make it extremely difficult for criminals to operate in Lanarkshire.
The public continually tell us what issues cause them the greatest concern and our aim with this initiative is to reassure them and demonstrate that we, along with our partners, are doing everything possible to address these concerns and make our communities safer by reducing violence, antisocial behaviour and serious and organised crime.”
