Spiders are back in training

Boss pleased with side after first session

- Will Henshaw

Queen’s Park boss Gus MacPherson is aiming to prepare his squad after learning of their “tough” start to the League Two season.

The fixtures for the Scottish leagues were announced last Friday.

The Spiders will take on Annan at Hampden in their first game.

They will then take on rivals Clyde at Broadwood before making the trip to Arbroath.

There’s no doubt it’s a tough start for the Spiders and Gus is ramping up his preparations for the upcoming campaign.

He said: “It’s good for everyone to see what we’re up against. This is where the pre-season preparation really starts.

“We’ve got a couple of cup games before hand, but the main thing is our league form.

“Annan is a hard start - they are all tough games, but Annan had a good season last year so you’ve got to think they will be strong again this term.

“It’s a tough start for us, there’s no getting away from that. We’ve got to make sure we’re as prepared as possible.

“We’ve got two more games this preseason than we did last year, hopefully that serves us well.”

The players reported back for preseason training last Saturday.

And although a few are still off on holiday, Gus was pleased that those who did report back were fit and healthy.

He said: “There were no problems, we had a double session on Saturday and everyone was fine, they were all fit and healthy.

“They had a programme to follow while they were off so we didn’t anticipate any problems. There were a couple still on holiday, but that’s always going to happen with part time clubs.”

And Gus admits he will have to wait until all of his players report back before he makes any more signings.

He added: “Right now it’s all about the preparation, we’ll have to wait until everyone gets back from holiday until we make any further progress on that.”
