Talented Kirsty scoops £1000 prize

A talent contest held at a Rutherglen pub resulted in a woman scooping a grand prize of £1000.

The Sportsman Bar, located on Glasgow Road, held a talent competitio­n last month which saw people from all over the Royal Burgh take part.

The entrants were all male and female vocalists. There was a big variety of songs preformed which ranged from Michael Buble, to Rihanna to Shirley Bassey

Owner of the pub John Vicars said: “We are always happy to support local talent and our competitio­n attracted some excellent entries.”

The competitio­n was judged by internatio­nal recording artist Allan Jay, owner John and music events organiser Craig Harman.”

The talent competitio­n took place on Thursday, June 18, and was presented by Derek Dee.

The overall winner was Kirsty Kennedy (30) who performed a selection of songs by Celine Dion, Leona Lewis and Emeli Sandé.

Kirsty, who is expecting a baby in September, was delighted to have won.

She said:“The money couldn’t have came at a better time, thank you to Mr and Mrs Vickers at the Sportsman also a big thank you to Craig Kirkwood of With Love Flowers for my beautiful bouquet and well done to everyone who took part in this fabulous competitio­n.”

As part of the prize, Kirsty will also get her very own guest spot performing at the Sportsman on evening per week.

John added:“Kirsty was a worthy winner and we look forward to having her perform again.”
