Call for squinty road markings to be rectified

- Will Henshaw

Road markings painted on a Cambuslang street have been dubbed the “worst in the UK”.

On a section of Langlea Road, just by Cathkin High School, many of the lane markings are squint or at an angle.

The unfortunate paint job has led to residents pointing out the faux pas and questioning whether or not whoever painted the lines was drunk.

On the Facebook group called Rutherglen, Charles Clark posted a photo of the lines. Along with the picture, he asked if anyone could identify the street, and that it “must be the worst line painting job in the UK”.

Alastair Dick named the street as Langlea Road and added: “a total disgrace my wee neice could have done better.”

Gail Dick posted: “Oh yes I know this road very well I live there lol ...I always feel like getting my paint brush out and drawing them bloody straight lol #disaster”

Frank Mclaren posted: “Must have went for pub lunch”.

However not all residents found the situation humorous.

One man who lives closeby to the road said: “Some people found it funny, but it’s just an example of someone not doing their job properly. People take pride in this area and the way these lines are painted just makes it look stupid.”

Rutherglen MSP James Kelly lives on Langlea Drive, just round the corner from the markings.

He said: “I have noticed these road markings before.

“They need to be corrected so they are accurate and safe for road users.”

Head of Roads and Transportation, Gordon Mackay, said: “Unfortunately in this instance the quality of workmanship does not appear to be up to our usual standard. The reasons for this will be investigated and addressed as necessary.”
