Rutherglen Reformer

Travel agent will refund all Tunisia bookings

- Will Henshaw

A travel agent in Rutherglen is offering holiday makers a refund or alternative bookings following the Tunisia Beach massacre.

On June 26 Tunisian student Seifeddine Rezgui walked on to the beach at the El Kantaoui resort in Sousse and opened fire, killing 38 people – including 30 UK nationals.

Burnside travel on Brownside Road has said if clients were booked to go to the North African country from up to July 12 they can get a full refund or book to go somewhere else with any tour operator.

If they were booked to go anytime up until October 31 they could book to go somewhere else, as long as it’s with the same tour operator.

Karen Bain, a travel clerk with Burnside Travel, added :“We didn’t have a lot of Tunisia bookings, any booking we had were before July 12 and they all rebooked for somewhere else.”

Manager of Thomas Cook in Rutherglen Debbie McDonnell declined to comment on specific holidays to Tunisia but added: “Business is going well and people are still going on holidays.”

The foreign travel advice section of the UK Government advised any travellers to keep in touch with their tour operator and follow any advice from Tunisian security authorities.

It also added that further terrorist attacks are likely, including in tourist resorts, and by individuals unknown to the authorities, whose actions may be inspired by terrorist groups via social media.

If holidaymakers see anything suspicious they are encouraged to immediately report it to police by calling the confidential anti-terrorist hotline on 0800 789321.
