Pupils dig deep to support their local foodbank

Students’ studies teach them all about poverty

- Jonathan Geddes

Kind-hearted Cathkin High pupils were helping out a good cause recently.

The youngsters had been learning about poverty as part of their studies.

And they decided to help out the Rutherglen and Cambuslang Foodbank.

Ian Robertson, of the Foodbank, was delighted at the support from the Cathkin pupils.

He said: “S1 students in Cathkin have been reading about poverty and their studies have led to an exercise in real-life support to the Rutherglen and Cambuslang Foodbank.

“Students in Mr. Devlin’s class collected food in their class and then presented it to Jo Simpson on behalf of the local charity.

“The handover also marked the day when these first years became S2 students.

“Pupils listened intently while Jo outlined the work of the foodbank, volunteers and the families they support. Well done to them.”
