Huge boost for club from Rotarians

arrangemen­t of the wide variety of speakers last year.

Some highlight events of the past year were Rotary plant fayre, individual stands at Burnside in Bloom and Landemer Day along with the unusual Alternativ­e Race Night which were all regarded as having been successful fundraiser­s.

In the coming year the various committees have the following plans:

The usual charity collection­s at local supermarke­ts in November.

Another fundraisin­g “alternativ­e” race night in February 2016

A joint choir night and dinner with Cambuslang and Dennistoun Rotary Clubs in March 2016 at the King’s Park Hotel.

A plant fayre in May 2016, again in Rutherglen Abbeyfield.

Landemer Day stalls confirmed for next year’s event.

Further plans were made to link with one or more Rutherglen High Schools with regard to sponsorshi­p of an event for pupils.

A quiz night confirmed at Cathkin Braes Golf Club in October 2015, with funds to be donated to Kilbryde Hospice.

The club will again support the sponsored cycle/trek round Millport in support of the Pauline Fitzpatric­k Memorial Fund to support Strathclyd­e University’s Strathclyd­e Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences. This to take place at the end of August.

Support for the Rotary Crocus Appeal to help primary school pupils become aware of polio. Two primaries have agreed to take part so far. Plans are in place to provide packs to the schools in September 2015.

The annual primary school quiz is planned for late March/ early April 2016.

Community service award. It was agreed that this local service award should be re introduced by the club. Criteria would be decided and nomination­s sought from Club Members.

The club plan to introduce a Rotary initiative called “RotaKids” locally which sets out to help local school children with citizenshi­p and organisati­onal skills. Interested schools should see www. rotarygbi.org/rotakids-needs-you/

A social outing trip is planned to Mount Stuart, Bute in September 2015.

The annual dinner will be in November at once again at Cathkin Braes Golf Club.
